Make History
Helena has enjoyed significant growth over the past decade and I am proud to have been part of that. Ensuring the next decade is as prosperous as the last will require a focused dedication to proper planning for future growth. It must be growth that works for all of us!
For the past 12 years I helped pave the way to successful growth by working with city, county, and state agencies in various projects ranging from new schools to new businesses to new neighborhoods.
It is my goal to continue to do what is needed so our future generations can continue to say “Helena is the best kept secret in Alabama”.
I am asking for your vote on August 25th so I may use my experience to continue to build a purpose filled future for all of us who call Helena home.
Future Goals for Helena
Continue to create additional financial security for the City
Empower our Economic Development Board to increase development for Helena through partnerships with the community and county agencies
Increase partnership with the county school board, citizens and developers relative to growth in Helena
Create more opportunities for training for all employees and improve competitive economic compensation
Implement an innovative strategy/solution in order to be less reliant on housing development for revenues
Improve roads within the city to help citizens with commutes and provide for safer roadway travel
My Accomplishments
Worked to bring fiscally conservative principles to the finances of Helena over the last 12 years.
I am most proud of this accomplishment!
In the previous eight years, we have managed to change spending practices to better align with the citizen’s goals to create fiscal security. Working together as a City, we have been able to provide better services and better pay for our outstanding employees. While doing so, Helena has saved over 3 million dollars so that the city can invest in our future and best respond when a crisis hits.
Brought Helena High School and Middle School to the community while partnering with Helena and Shelby County officials.
Provided leadership to the Implementation Plan, added roads (Hillsboro Parkway) for our schools
and built the top-notch athletic facilities at Helena High School
Worked alongside the Mayor and fellow Council Members to bring essential economic development to the city.
A few projects: Zaxby’s, Walmart, Chick-fil-A, etc.
Along with the Mayor and Helena’s Parks & Recreation Director, Bill Miller using my proven leadership to bring a dedicated soccer field
and a multi-sport field (soccer & football) and delicious concessions for our youth and families here in Helena.
Advocated and voted for a brand new tennis court while renovating Helena’s existing tennis courts.

Family
Leigh Hulsey has spent countless hours volunteering for the past 19 years in our ballparks, 16 years in our wonderful Helena schools and serving this community through other events like Buck Creek Festival, as the Volunteer Coordinator for a few years, and numerous other projects.
She and her husband, Dennis, have raised their children in this community and continue to do so. Leigh loves this community and developing meaningful relationships, while serving others. It is her desire to leave a strong legacy and solid foundation for our future generations.
